The Hot List...

The fashion world depicts the direction of the masses every season... we are here to tell you what's on the Hot List this season, and what trends (we hope) won't make it to the midwest!

TRENDS TO LOOK FOR IN 2009

Spring and Summer

Sailing On...

The nautical vibe is still pushing on... anything navy is a good bet for the season. If you love the horizontal stripe, here is your chance. If you experience a strong aversion to this hard-to-wear trend, try this:

For a budget friendly fix - freshen a basic skirt or top with some fun gold rope accesories.

Romantics...

It's hard not to adore this trend. Fairytale blooms, flowing hemlines, lots of lace, ruffles and old-world style are played up. Take these fun and flirty inspirations down a few notches and incorporate the details into your everyday wardrobe. Look for simple embellishments: delicate ruffles, a garden skirt with chiffon layers, rosette broaches, and lacey layers.

Athena imparts her wisdom...Grecian Goddess Trend

The soft and elegant lines of grecian-inspired gowns are a big 2009 trend. This trends saving grace lies in her heavily-rooted classic style. While this trend comes and goes, it stays true to the basics every time it surfaces. Sheer, lightweight fabrics layered and draped together create a feminine style. Loose-fitting, unstructured tops and dresses, often belted, with gold accents are what to look for. If you haven't invested in this trend in past years, and you love a flowing, loosely draped look, incorporate a few key pieces this summer and hang on to them!

Sized Up...

In a downturned time financially, one trend attempts to overcompensate. Oversized bows have been splattered on the runway. This is one we hope won't make it to the mid-west. It's a simple truth that this part of the country is a few steps behind the coasts in buying into the trends. This has always seemed to frustrate the fashion forward in our community, but here is one reason to give thanks for the sluggish style-train we are on.

Destroyed...Destroyed Stocking Trend

Ripped and tattered denim resurfaces this spring and summer, most prominently in the form of the slouchy boyfriend jean. Also imitating the rocker/grunge footsteps of the 90's - we see calculated destruction in stockings. The layered look of leggings and printed tights are here to stay, with a little update. For a fun fix at home, get creative with your stocking collection. If love this trend but like a softer style, pair them with a flirty mini in a very feminine color to mimic this trend without looking too edgy.

Bare Assets...

The one shoulder. Some love it, most hate it. Either way, it's back, giving you a golden opportunity to show some skin in a very sophisticated way. Be choosey about the neckline. High necklines in this style will widen your shoulders. Look for a simple style with assymetrical straps to get the most out of this trend. This one doesn't stay popular for long, so a few key pieces in your summer wardrobe is all you need.
